Get insurance that works for you!
Here at Builders’ Talk Group® we care about relationships, trust and people wanting to do the right thing. It’s important in business as well as personal relationships that you work with people who are genuine. That’s why we work with people who we believe are motivated to help their clients, in the same way we, as builders, want to help ours. In a world where talking to someone about your business is becoming less accessible, we think it’s important to know who you are dealing with. Which is why we look for small businesses such as Hallsworth Insurance Services. Read more about them here……
At Hallsworth Insurance Services, our main selling point is simply that we speak with you and explain insurance as clearly as we can and wherever possible we find the right policies, which you understand, at excellent value prices.
Tools
Theft of tools is a real nightmare for contractors, it’s not just the loss of equipment, but the loss of the ability to earn money and do the job properly. Theft of tools from vans is unfortunately commonplace now. Many companies advertise that they provide tools cover. However, in a lot of cases, they don’t cover them if left in vans overnight. We have access to a policy which can cover this eventuality for up to £10,000 per vehicle and it won’t break the bank.
Tools in transit cover includes ;
Cover is available for single or multiple vehicle risks.
The policy covers tools left in the vehicle including overnight providing:
The tools are concealed in a cargo or luggage compartment;
All doors and windows are locked and the keys are removed from the vehicle;
The vehicle is parked:
In a locked compound, or
In a hotel car park, or
On your driveway, or
On a well-lit street adjacent to your hotel or home.
Public Liability
Every contractor we cover has Public Liability cover. Whilst the entry level is £1million, often, we are asked to provide £5million as this is often what main contractors require. On one occasion we sourced cover for £80million and we can go higher.
Motor Fleet
We can arrange cover for motor fleets from 2 vehicles upwards with policies on an any driver basis (we can even cover 17-year-olds to drive for your business in most cases). To be honest, pretty much any insurance broker in the country can do that, and most will be a comparable price. It is important though to ensure the cover is correct. Most policies exclude things such as the carriage of flammables (including gas bottles), but an experienced broker will have the wording amended to include this if the correct precautions are taken. It’s about having the right conversation for the right industry to make sure clients don’t get tripped up.
Hired and Owned Plant
Whether it’s a £200,000 excavator or £200 generator, we can source plant policies which protect your plant wherever it is, even if you have to leave it unattended on site. If you regularly hire plant, our hired in plant insurance can work out much more competitive than insurance provided by hirers.
Professional Indemnity
It could be argued that pretty much every contractor should buy Professional Indemnity. Most will argue that they don’t do any design work, but how often do they have to ‘adapt’ a job part way through, thus constituting a design. In one case, a window fitter who was working on building ran out of the correct screws. He decided to use a different screw out of his box. After a year, the screw he used rusted and discoloured the stone. It was a grade 1 listed building and the rectification work came to £35,000. The cause was deemed to be as a result of a change in design. Are you covered?
Contract Works
Imagine a builder getting almost all the way to the end of a £50,000 extension, and then it burns down. If it hasn’t been completed and handed over, it is likely that they will be responsible for rebuilding it from scratch, paying for all labour and materials. We can provide insurance for the contract itself.
Employers Liability
Employers Liability insurance is a legal requirement for any company with employees. Many tradesmen engage the use of casual labour without realising that the law classes such labourers as employees. The penalty for not carrying the correct Employers Liability insurance can be custodial Employers Liability Insurance carries a standard £10m limit but we can provide greater limits where necessary.
Others
The following is a further list of some of the other covers we can provide, but it is not intended to be exhaustive (that list would go on too long!).
Engineering Breakdown
Buildings and Contents
Money
Business Interruption
Cyber
Directors & Officers Liability
Entity Defence
Employment Practice Liability
Travel (domestic and international)
Collateral Warranties.
The Difference
Many of the policies I buy on behalf of clients can be found online if you know what you are looking for. However, I make sure that I personally have a conversation either over the phone or by a face to face meeting, with every single one of my clients to make sure that I understand their business and that they understand what their insurance covers and doesn’t cover. Anyone can sell a Public Liability policy, but if you use a soldering iron and your policy has an exclusion for heat work, that policy is no good. Don’t get tripped up by the details in the wording. As an independent broker, having worked in the industry for over 30 years, I have relationships with underwriters which enable me to provide quality cover, but importantly, in these testing times, at the right price.
